Sandy Hook is set to write a new chapter for its elementary school - a decision on the location of the new school could come as soon as Friday night.
On Dec. 14, a gunman shot and killed 20 first-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
As of Friday night, the entrance to the school remains blocked off.
One thing was certain when these meetings started about a month ago - Sandy Hook Elementary School would never be a school again.
Officials narrowed down a list of 40 new locations and now it is down to two. Both locations are on Riverside Road, less than a mile from the original school.
The two sites are practically neighbors with 12 Riverside Rd., a sweeping 12.2 acre site and just a few yards down is 28 Riverside Rd., known to locals as Sac Field.
The Sac Field location would provide a blank canvas for architects to execute the ideas and innovations for the new school that many have discussed.
The 12 Riverside Rd. location currently has a building on the site.
"It'll be good to bring back a sense of normalcy," said parent Julie Siegele.
With students being bussed to a school in neighboring Monroe, parents are looking forward to having students closer to home.
"Good that its close by to keep the fabric of town together," said Newtown parent Bruce Erickson.
A 28-member task force will decide Friday night where that home of Sandy Hook Elementary School will be.
After the task force decides the new location, the next step is figuring out what to do with the old school. Some resident told Eyewitness News it should be a memorial, a park or both.
