Woman waiting for Oak Park Mall parking spot says man waved gun at her

Posted: Updated:
OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

A woman was shaken up after she said an angry man pulled a gun on her while she waited for a parking spot at Oak Park Mall.

Overland Park police said they are investigating this case of road rage and reviewing surveillance video.

The man denies the allegations and offers a completely different story.

All this occurred about 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the food court side of the mall, which is located at 11149 W. 95th St. The woman told police that she was waiting for a parking spot to become open when an irate man pulled up behind her.

She said the man cussed her out. He eventually pulled up beside her, waved a gun inside his vehicle and threatened to kill her if she didn't move, the woman claims.

The woman called 911, followed him and was able to get the license plate of the man's vehicle, police said.

Police said no matter what turns out in this case, it is never a good idea to pursue someone.

"It's always a good idea to be a good witness, but in this case . . . when there's a weapon involved we don't suggest following anybody," Overland Park Police Department Officer Gary Mason said.

Mall patrons said Friday that the allegations are unsettling for those embarking on seemingly routine tasks of shopping at the mall.
