An international terrorist originally from Alabama says he was shot in the neck today.
Around 1:00 p.m. Central time Thursday, 29 year old Omar Hammami sent a series of frantic tweets. "Just been shot in neck by shabab assassin. not critical yet". Moments later, more details - "sitting in tea place then 3 shots behind to left. pistol i think. they ran". Hammami says the bullets missed his arteries and windpipe, and that he was being treated with anti-septic and gauze.
Hammami was born in Daphne, just outside Mobile.
In 2006, he left America to join jihadist forces in Africa, eventually settling in Somalia. Since then, he's been known as "Abu the American." He's featured in numerous terror videos and been actively taunting his home country on Twitter. (and, oddly enough, giving his thoughts on the Auburn/Alabama rivalry as well.)
Hammami has been in the middle of a feud between rival terror groups for several months. The U.S. Government has a $5 million bounty on his head.
