EL MIRAGE, AZ (CBS5) -
Lizards are commonplace in Arizona. Monitor lizards? Not so much.
But that's what was found wandering a street in El Mirage just before noon Tuesday.
A Surprise Police Department spokesman said a bystander saw the lizard in the road near 127th Avenue and Larkspur Road in El Mirage and was able to capture it in a large plastic container before the Surprise Animal Control officer and El Mirage police arrived.
The lizard was taken to the Arizona Herpetological Society in Scottsdale until the owner can claim it.
Anyone with information about the lizard or its owner is asked to call Surprise police at 623-222-4000, option 3.
