Grandview pharmacy latest in cough syrup heists

Posted: Updated:

Authorities are investigating after thieves smashed their way into Grandview pharmacy to steal cough syrup.

Grandview police were called just before 1 a.m. Monday to an alarm call at Albers Pharmacy in the 7200 block of East 147 Street.

When officers arrived, they found a Dodge van backed up to the front door of the business.  Police said the van appeared to have been used to break through the door to gain access.

Authorities later found out that the van was stolen.

A K-9 unit responded to assist with search of the building and attempt to locate the suspect.

Workers had to board up a hole in the wall of Spalitto's Pharmacy in Kansas City last Thursday after thieves smashed their way into the business and stole 20 bottles of prescription-strength codeine cough syrup.

Surveillance video, caught on Spalitto's Pharmacy's 16 cameras, shows two men coming in the store.  The suspects have masks on, but they also left the white minivan behind at the scene and investigators hope it will hold more clues.

Anyone with information regarding the crime is urged to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
