LEAWOOD, KS (KCTV) -

Authorities need help finding the arsonist who set fire to a school playground.

Police said surveillance video shows the suspect vehicle pull into the Brookwood Elementary school parking lot about 9:15 p.m. Monday.

The fire was reported about 15 minutes later at the school, located at 3411 W. 103rd St. Half of the playground was destroyed.

Several employees were inside the school cleaning up after a banquet that was held earlier in the evening.

Over the past few years, there have been a number of fires at playgrounds in the metro. Most of them have been in Johnson County and were intentionally set.

One of the latest was last November at Broken Arrow Elementary in Shawnee. About $50,000 in damage was done to the playground there.

At least six local playgrounds were torched in 2011. Those fires are still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Leawood Police Department at (913) 642-5555, ext. 217 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
