WARRENSBURG, MO (KCTV) -

Police said they were forced to fatally shoot a Warrensburg man after he fired a shotgun blast at officers.

The Warrensburg Police Department said the 57-year-old man confronted officers with a shotgun when they arrived to serve a search warrant for narcotics and firearms.

One officer returned fire, according to the news release. The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating.

This occurred just before 11 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of Ninth Street.

"We are very fortunate to not have had any officer injury or death with this situation," Warrensburg police Chief Bruce Howey said in a news release.
