The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) has announced that this Saturday's game between FC Kansas City and the Boston Breakers will be rescheduled to a future date due to the ongoing situation in Boston. The game was scheduled for 7:35 p.m. at Shawnee Mission District Stadium in Overland Park, KS.
"Due to increased security measures that have impacted travel from the area, we have made the decision to reschedule this weekend's game between Kansas City and the Breakers," said NWSL Executive Director Cheryl Bailey. "We believe the best course of action would be to allow the Boston staff and players to remain home during this difficult time."
Team president Brian Budzinski noted that at this time the Boston players and staff have more important things to focus on at this time than a soccer game.
"We stand 'Boston Strong' with the Breakers players, staff and the citizens of Boston right now and send our thoughts and prayers to all who are affected by this tragedy," Budzinski said.
There will still be two other NWSL matches played this weekend in Washington, DC and Portland. Both will conduct a moment of silence prior to the playing of the national anthem.
