WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -

Investigators say a 33-year-old West Ashley man yelled, "I love you baby!!" after running over his girlfriend at an apartment complex.

The Charleston Police Department charged Charles Baker with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature

On Friday morning, police responded to an apartment complex on Westchase Drive in West Ashley for an incident involving a truck and a pedestrian.

The witness told police she was outside of her apartment when she heard loud noises coming from the parking lot.

According to the witness, she saw the victim on the ground and a Dodge Ram, driven by Baker, leaving the parking lot. The witness said as Baker was leaving, he yelled, "I love you baby!!" then sped off.

Officers then located the 33-year-old victim at her apartment. She said Baker had ran her over with his truck and left. Police noticed that the victim was having trouble walking and had a cut with bleeding and swelling.

Emergency officials were then called to the location and transported the victim to the hospital.

Investigators say Baker drove back to the apartment complex where a traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle. Baker told police it all started when the victim opened the door to his truck and punched him in the face.

Baker said he then put the vehicle in reverse and ran over the victim's leg. According to Baker, he pulled forward to allow the victim to remove her foot and then drove off.
