Power outage leaves thousands without power in KCK

KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities is getting to the bottom of the cause of a significant power outage in KCK Sunday morning as crews work to restore power to some 7,000 residents.

BPU spokesman David Mehlhoff said that a transformer went out at the company's Victory West Substation, located along Leavenworth Road, about 9:15 a.m.

That, in turn, knocked out power in one of BPU's main power lines.

As of 9:45 a.m., 6,900 residents are without power.

Mehlhoff says everyone should have their lights back on in a couple of hours.
