Police: Double murder-suicide suspected in Topeka

TOPEKA, KS (KCTV/AP) -

Police say three people whose bodies were found inside a Topeka home died in an apparent double murder-suicide.

Topeka police Lt. Scott Gilchrist said officers and emergency medical responders arrived to a home at Southwest Jewell Avenue and Southwest Seventh Street after getting a 911 call about 9:15 p.m. Friday, from a woman at a home where several people were shot. Officers found three gunshot victims and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later identified the three people as Shawna K. Solis, Antwan M. Muhammad and Howard E. Givens. All three are in their mid-30s to 40 years of age.

Police didn't say who was suspected of pulling the trigger.

Gilchrist initially said that police were searching for a person of interest and that the person isn't believed to be a threat to the general public. Police later corrected that statement when they said they now believe the deaths to be a result of a double murder-suicide.

The city of Topeka had recorded only two homicides this year prior to Friday, a local newspaper reported.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 785-368-9400 or Crime Stoppers at 785-234-0007.
