Water main break cuts service to entire town of Lawson

Posted: Updated:

It could be a rough morning for the thousands of Lawson residents after a main pump line broke and drained the city's water tower.

A boil order is in effect for the entire city, and the town's schools are also closed. Once the water comes back on, the boil order will be lifted.

The water line broke about 1 a.m. Thursday and drained the town's two water towers. The city northeast of Kearney gets its water supply from Excelsior Springs.

Crews are digging and trying to fix the break about a mile south of Salem Road and 184th Street.

Public works crews in Lawson hope to fix the line by 9 a.m. Thursday.

Once the water line is fixed, it will take about two hours to get enough water in the tanks to get pressure. City officials said it will take the two water towers about two days to fill back up.
