KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

It is the Kansas City Royals' 40th home opener at Kauffman Stadium, and for some Monday is a holiday.

"This is our 20th year in a row for Opening Day, so it is kind of a tradition," Olathe resident Rick Evans said.

The same goes for Kansas City, KS, resident Mike Estell.

"It is Opening Day man! What better day to come than Opening Day," Estell said.

Royals fans are very optimistic about their team this year. The Royals lost their first two games of the season, but have won three of their last four games.

Fans said this year the team is going to turn the corner.

"I am not going to lie. Thirty-tree years and this is probably the best team I have seen. This year … all the way … World Series," exclaimed  KCK resident Daniel Liles.

For Kevin Blunt, a Royals fan in Stanton, IA, the moves the Royals made during the offseason were good.

"I like the moves that were made. There are always some risks every time you make a move, but there were some risks that the team needed to go, and we are looking forward to it," Blunt said.

As for tickets to Monday's home opener, it is sold out, but the Royals said those with tickets should get to the stadium early.

The game starts at 3:10 p.m., and the gates opened at noon.

Toby Cook, vice president of community affairs and publicity for the Royals, said there will be a great pre-game ceremony.

"If you can be in the stadium, maybe even in your seats, by about 2:15 p.m., you are really going to see us start the 2013 season off great," Cook said.
