HARTFORD, CT (AP) -

Connecticut is participating in national observance of Pay Equity Day to draw attention to differences in wages paid to men and women in Connecticut.

Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman is set to present a resolution on Tuesday at a news conference organized by the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women.

State Commissioners Sharon Palmer and Catherine Smith are also scheduled to attend the event. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has tasked them with identifying best practices for eliminating a gender gap in Connecticut's private sector.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Equal Pay Act intended to abolish wage disparity based on gender.

The U.S. Department of Labor says women receive about 80 cents for every dollar earned by men.
