Assault, attempted child abduction sparks fire

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police said an apartment was set on fire after an assault in which someone tried to take a child.

The fire started shortly after 4 p.m. at an apartment at 26th and Harrison streets in the Beacon Hill area.

Police said someone set a unit on fire after they were involved in an assault and tried to allegedly take a child.

The person who police suspect was involved in the assault tried to take the child and is believed to have started the blaze is in custody.

Police offered no further details at this time.
