Science fiction and comic book fans throughout the Midwest are feeling a disruption in the force. No, it's not George Lucas selling Star Wars to Disney; it's the rumblings of excitement leading up to Planet Comicon Kansas City.

The event is being held April 6 and 7 at Bartle Hall in downtown Kansas City.

First staged in 1999, the annual pop culture extravaganza has doubled in size, prompting this year's move to Bartle Hall.

Chris Jackson, who helped create the event, promised area pop culture and cosplayers (costume aficionados) more events, more artists, more merchandise, and the largest list of celebrity guests in the show's history.

A highlight of Comicon will be hundreds of costumed fans appearing as their favorite characters, parading and competing in costume contests, which are being filmed for a SyFy series about cosplay (costumes). The show will also feature vendors selling comics and other collectible memorabilia, and a full schedule of panel programming running concurrently in three halls.

Planet Comicon runs April 6 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and April 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A full schedule of events and ticket information can be found at planetcomicon.com.
