Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Seven residents of a group home made it out safely after a fire in the early morning hours of Friday.

The fire was reported at 12:09 a.m. Several residents had disabilities that complicated their escape.

The Kansas City chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the residents. The home suffered significant damage after the fire spread to the roof.

The exact cause is under investigation, but the fire appears to have started in the kitchen, authorities said.
