BLUE SPRINGS, MO (KCTV) -

Police continue to search for clues after a woman's body was found inside a Blue Springs motel room.

Police were called to Knights Inn and Suites, located just north of Interstate 70 at Northwest Jefferson and Woods Chapel roads, about 11 a.m. Thursday after a housekeeper found the 44-year-old woman dead in one of the motel rooms. The room was located on the second floor.

Officers on scene said the woman had been living at the motel since July and was previously from northern Missouri.

The woman was identified Monday as Lisa Jo Tharp, who has also gone by the name Lisa Jo Ruttenburg. The 44-year-old woman hailed from Trenton, MO.

The woman's family came to the motel and was visibly upset last week. They asked police not to release a photo of her.

The Jackson County medical examiner hasn't released the cause of death at this time. Detectives say the woman's room showed signs of a struggle and items were out of place.

Police questioned a man who was staying inside a third-floor room. Bags of evidence were removed from that room.

The man was questioned and released, but police say he is considered a person of interest and has not been cleared. The investigation continues and no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
