PHOENIX (CBS5) -
The former girlfriend of a man accused in the deaths of two people whose bodies were found in a buried box has been arrested and booked on similar charges.
Elise Garcia, 23, who has two children by accused murderer Alan Champagne, was booked into jail Monday on one count of first-degree murder and two counts of concealing bodies.
On March 5, landscapers uncovered a box containing the remains of two people in the backyard of a house previously owned by Champagne's mother.
The 42-year-old Champagne was already in jail on unrelated aggravated assault and criminal trespassing charges relating to a standoff he had with police in March 2011, in which Garcia and a 5-year-old boy were also involved.
Champagne and Garcia barricaded themselves in the home at 3823 N. 14th Place with his 5-year-old son and Champagne shot at a SWAT team as they forced their way in. The boy was released before the shooting.
Champagne previously served time in prison for second-degree murder.
Phoenix police confirmed through DNA the remains found in the backyard of the home were two people missing since the summer of 2011 - Philmon Tapaha and his girlfriend, Brandi Hoffner.
