KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

One person is in the hospital after a car hit a pedestrian.

The victim suffered critical injuries during the incident that happened near 17th and Summit Street.

Police said the driver did not stop after hitting the person.

"Officers in the downtown area attempted to stop a suspected intoxicated driver. That driver refused to stop for the officers, a chase then ensued because the driver was driving very dangerously," Officer Bill Mahoney with the Kansas City, MO, Police Department said. "As they came southbound on Summit in the area of West Pennway, there was a pedestrian standing by a parked vehicle on Summit and this driver, as she was running from the police, struck the pedestrian and kept going."

Police did eventually find the driver and took her into custody.
