Business along Truman Road goes up in flames

Posted: Updated:

A massive fire broke out at a Kansas City building just east of downtown on East Truman Road and Kensington Avenue late Thursday night.

Despite a nearby water main break, firefighters managed to battle the large fire in the business located in the 4400 block of East Truman Road.

The business went up in flames about 10:45 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters believe it started inside a nail salon.

Although crews quickly worked to put out the flames before they impacted even more nearby businesses, firefighters had to change their plan of attack because the fire was so intense.

Firefighters said they feel fortunate a nearby water main break did not hinder their efforts to battle the blaze.

"It didn't affect our water supply here. As you can see, we have plenty of water on the fire right now. It didn't affect us too much to fight the fire," said James Garrett, the public information officer for the Kansas City Fire Department.

No one was injured.

Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause.
