Man barricaded inside condo commits suicide

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS (KCTV) -

Police and emergency crews surrounded a complex of condos in Prairie Village on Wednesday afternoon as they dealt with a suicidal man.

About two hours later, things were back to normal in the neighborhood after officers determined the man had taken his own life.

Officials on scene said they were dealing with a man who was barricaded inside The Chateau condos and townhomes, armed with a gun and threatening suicide. About 5 p.m., officials on scene indicated the man had killed himself.

While some people in businesses at the area of 83rd Street and Somerset Drive said they were told to stay inside, others as far away as 90th Street and Roe Avenue said they were evacuated.

Many initially believed the man was on the loose because they saw police going through the neighborhood at least three or four blocks from the initial scene.

While officials worked to make the scene safe, Somerset Drive was blocked off around the condo complex.
