A popular wedding reception venue in Wolcott closed its doors ahead of the busy wedding season.
Owner of Lily Lake Inn, Edward Adames, told Eyewitness News the poor economy forced the business into foreclosure.
Eyewitness News talked to several people who have wedding plans there, and they were unhappy about the last-minute notice.
"We have notified our customers who have booked events with us of these circumstances," Adames said in a statement to WFSB. "We will do everything in our power to return deposits for events that we will not be able to hold as soon as possible."
Chad Pike said he didn't know what to do and where to go when he learned that Lily Lake Inn had shutdown. He had booked the venue last fall after getting engaged on Valentine's Day.
"I only plan on getting married once and my fiance always wanted that picture-perfect wedding," he said. "I wanted to give everything she wanted and it was a beautiful place."
Pike told Eyewitness News that he found out through word of mouth on Monday night.
"You want to plan ahead for a wedding because things like this could happen," he said. "But, you never think things like this happen to you."
A letter was sent to everyone who had booked the venue, Adames said.
"I have every intention returning your deposit to you as soon as I can," the letter said.
Officials at the Office of the Attorney General told Eyewitness News that they have not received any complaints or calls about the Lily Lake Inn.
Pike told Eyewitness News that he lost $1,200.
"I know that doesn't seem like much but when you're paying out of pocket and trying to save up for a house, every penny helps, every penny helps," he said.
If anyone had an event booked at Lily Lake Inn and ran into any issues, you can call the Connecticut Attorney General's Consumer Assistance Department at 860-808-5400 or the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection at 1-800-842-2649.
