Lengthy pothole repair creates huge backup on I-70 eastbound

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Repairs of a large pothole on Interstate 70 eastbound at the Manchester Bridge have created a huge traffic snarl.

The Missouri Department of Transportation was undertaking the work by 2 p.m. Monday, resulting in miles of backed up traffic. The work was continuing some four hours later, creating lengthy delays for motorists with traffic down to just one lane at rush hour.

KCTV5 did not receive an immediate response from MODOT on why the work lingered into the rush hour and when the repairs would be completed.

MODOT has not sent out an updated news release. The work was initially planned for the weekend, but perhaps heavy rains over the weekend delayed the work.

In a news release released last week, MODOT said eastbound I-70 would be reduced to one lane from 8 p.m. Friday through noon Sunday for bridge deck repair. However, the project did not begin Friday night and no construction crews were seen Friday night on the bridge.
