Police investigate after woman's body found in ditch

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Police are investigating the discovery of a body in a ditch on the city's east side.

A Jackson County Parks and Recreation employee who was picking up trash discovered the woman's body about 10:15 a.m. Monday on Raytown Road near Eastern Avenue.

Officers believe the body has been there for a couple days before it was discovered. The terrain is difficult with almost a straight drop from the road into the ditch.

There was no identification on the body. The death is considered suspicious.

"This isn't a place where someone would just be walking and say have a heart attack or whatever and pass out," Kansas City Police Department Officer Darin Snapp said. "The body's in a ditch. It's almost as if someone was trying to hide the body, but it doesn't appear it's been there very long though. So we're thinking maybe a couple of days at the most."
