KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -
Friends and family gathered in KCK Friday night to say goodbye to a young man killed at a party.
Tyler Manis, 20, was shot at a party on South 63rd Street Thursday night.
His family said Manis was known as a popular, smart and athletic kid back in high school at Shawnee Mission North.
"Knowing that he's not coming back, he was supposed to come back. He just went to have some fun and was supposed to come back and now he's not coming home," Lori Manis, his mother, said.
"Knowing the fact that it wasn't a car wreck, it was a senseless act, someone stupid with a gun, that's what hurts me the most," Joe Manis, his father, said.
Kenneth F. Cox, 23, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting. A second person was also shot.
Cox is in the Wyandotte County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
