KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Officers are gathering evidence on Friday to determine how a body was found inside a burnt vehicle abandoned in Blue Valley Park.

Kansas City Police Department officers were called at 6:08 p.m. Thursday on a report of a body found. After inspecting the pickup, they believe human remains are inside, a police representative said. Authorities are investigating the death as suspicious.

"We want to make sure we don't have any missteps in the investigation," Officer Marissa Barnes said. "We treat it like a homicide and dot our Is and cross our Ts."

Crime scene technicians were called to the scene. Because of the late hour, the search for clues was suspended and detectives are back out on Friday.

The park is near 27th Street and Topping Avenue. The pickup is in a field with tire tracks and patches of snow surrounding it.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the person's gender and cause of death.
