KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A carport at a Kansas City, KS, apartment complex collapsed, temporarily trapping one person.

The collapse happened at Madison Wood View apartments, located on Woodview Ridge Drive, just off of Roe Lane.

A man was in a Bobcat piece of construction equipment removing snow from inside the carport when the it collapsed on him, the Bobcat and six other cars. Fire crews used a chainsaw to cut through the collapsed carport to reach the person and get him out.

The man is OK. Fire officials said he was protected by the Bobcat cage around him.

Officials are estimating the collapse caused approximately $85,000 in damage.

It's unknown at this time if snow on the carport, the Bobcat or a weak structure caused the collapse.

The Kansas City, KS, Fire Department does recommend that property owners clear the snow off all garage structures because it adds unnecessary weight.
