Former Leavenworth fire chief accused of driving under influence

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY, KS (KCTV) -

Mark Demaranville has been charged with driving under the influence.

Demaranville was fire chief for the Leavenworth Fire Department when he crashed his motorcycle on Sept. 5. He has since stepped down from that position. He is now the safety officer and health inspector for the fire department.

Special Prosecutor Jerry Kuckelman, who is the Atchison County attorney, is handling the case for the Leavenworth County Attorney's office.

In a statement, the county attorney's office said Demaranville stated in court on Wednesday that he would be seeking diversion.
