Classes Use Achieve3000 to "Heat Up" Reading Scores, Build Critical Literacy Skills
Naples, Fla. (PRWEB) February 25, 2013
Three triumphant classes from Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) will be in the stands watching the action when the reigning NBA champion the Miami Heat take on the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, March 1 at American Airlines Arena. Inspired by Heat star LeBron James and his teammates, who publicly tout their reading lists at post-game press conferences, CCPS eighth, ninth, and tenth graders read at the top of their game to win this special trip to Miami for a potential preview of the NBA Finals.
In a competition that started in January, CCPS students used Achieve3000®, a personalized, online learning program, to build their literacy skills. The winning classes demonstrated the most progress toward meeting or exceeding grade-level reading standards, earning them tickets to the much-anticipated NBA matchup, along with access to pre-game warm-ups, dinner at the game, and the opportunity to shoot post-game free throws on the Heat’s home court.
