KCK family thankful public works crews finally cleared their street

KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

One Kansas City, KS, family will be able to sleep a bit easier thanks to the public works crew clearing their street.

The family suffered an emotional and physical toll after the recent storm.

"If we have an emergency or fire, a rescue can't come down here, so what are we to do?" Teresa Moore said.

Moore hasn't been able to leave her home since the storm Thursday. She lives off Interstate 635 and Parallel Parkway in KCK and her street hadn't been plowed or even had one pass by since the storm.

Her husband has cancer and fortunately is in remission, but he missed doctors' appointments. Her son is in the hospital with a heart condition. As a mom, Moore said all she wanted to do was go see her son and be able to take her husband to his necessary appointments.

"You can see behind me what we're dealing with," Moore said as she pointed at a street that didn't appear to have seen a snowplow since Thursday.

She said her car wouldn't have made it up the hill, especially with its low clearance.

"Our neighbors are having to park two blocks away and it just doesn't make any sense," Moore said.

She said her countless calls to the Unified Government of Wyandotte County offices went unreturned.

Just as KCTV5's Nima Shaffe finished up his interview with her Saturday, a plow was spotted starting the trek down her street.

"I'm just ecstatic about the whole thing. I mean, it took him long enough to get here," Moore said when she saw it.

There is a second storm making its way to the metro and Moore said she is hoping, with the next round of snow, the city won't hold off too long on clearing her street.
