Traffic accident causes gas main leak near 67th, Troost

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Crews have finished patching a gas main leak caused by a traffic accident.

A car slammed into a gas meter and a tree near East 67th Street and Troost Avenue about 8 a.m. Monday.

The driver of that car was hurt but is expected to be OK.

Utility workers from Missouri Gas Energy were called to the scene. The leak was stopped at 8:40 a.m. and Troost Avenue was reopened.

Several buildings near the scene are without gas service. One of those buildings was the nearby Research Medical Center doctor's offices.

However, because that building is running on a generator, it is not experiencing any heat loss and continues to have hot water.
