Slick roads may be to blame in a deadly crash in KCK.
Police found a truck Saturday afternoon that went off Leavenworth Road near 133rd Street and landed in a creek.
Authorities believe that sometime overnight Friday the driver veered off the roadway and into a creek.
A man in his 50s was found dead inside of the vehicle. His name hasn't been released.
The cause of death is unknown at this time, and the accident remains under investigation.
About the same time, a multiple-vehicle collision closed lanes of Interstate 35. The wreck closed the three northbound lanes of I-35 past 67th Street. Estimated clearance time is 4:09 p.m.
Many wrecks were reported starting Friday night into Saturday morning. The fresh snow and slick conditions were cited as the cause.
A stretch of Interstate 435 in Overland Park, KS, is back open Saturday morning after it was shut down due to a wreck. Police said several vehicles were involved in the accident including one that flipped and caught fire. Slick roads are being blamed for the wreck, but everyone is OK and I-435 reopened about 8 a.m. Saturday.
And a truck tipped onto its side in another wreck on I-435 in Overland Park. The driver said weather definitely played a role in his accident.
"I started skidding, almost saved it. Then I didn't. It bounced off the wall, skidded and (ended up) right there," the driver, who wished not to give his name, said.
The driver was able to escape the crash without any serious injuries.
It was a miserable Friday night for drivers on the Missouri side as well. Highway 71 was almost like a slip and slide for several cars.
A multiple-vehicle crash happened just after midnight near Swope Parkway.
And downtown Kansas City saw its fair share of snow-related accidents, shutting down Interstate 70 for a short time. A crash in the westbound lanes of I-70, just west of Interstate 35, forced closure of the westbound I-70 lanes about 9:30 p.m. Friday.
