A Wyandotte County inmate has been charged after a district attorney said he assaulted a deputy and temporarily escaped from the courthouse where he had just had his court appearance.
Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome A. Gorman charged Lamario J. Stayton, 25, with aggravated robbery, battery on a corrections officer and aggravated escape from custody.
Wednesday, Stayton escaped from custody while being taken from a Wyandotte County courtroom to a holding cell in the Correctional and Court Services Building at Seventh Street and Ann Avenue. Stayton was in court for a hearing on his previous charged of second-degree murder and aggravated battery.
The previous charges came following the Aug. 11 shooting deaths of Laura Mitchie and Monty Taylor at a motorcycle club on 16th Street, just north of Webster Avenue in KCK as well as the non-fatal shooting of two other people.
