Homeowner fights back when men break into his home

Posted: Updated:

Four people are accused in an attempted home burglary where the homeowner fought back.

LaQuisha Fears, Pierre Ward, Laurent McCambry and Jermaine Williams are charged with robbery, burglary, tampering, armed criminal action and kidnapping.

Police said May 29, 2012, two men walked into a house on Cedar Ridge Drive and stole money and phones from the couple there.

The suspects asked where the safe and jewelry was and ordered the couple to the basement. That's when police said the homeowner punched one suspect and stabbed one with a kitchen knife.

Police said the suspects dropped the loot and ran off.

The homeowners were able to get the license plate of the getaway car, which was later shown to be stolen.

"The homeowner was very brave in protecting his family. I am relieved that this family got through this incident without serious physical injury," Cass County Prosecutor Teresa Hensley said.

The homeowners' grandson was watching television in the basement when the suspects broke into the home. The child heard the arguing upstairs and, when one of the suspects started downstairs to look for a safe, the grandson hid in a closet until he heard his grandfather call for him. The family wasn't hurt.
