KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Police believe the same man may have killed two Kansas City prostitutes. Now family of one of the victims is talking about their loss.
"She was a good sister, she was a good friend and, you know, me and her would talk about, you know, stuff that I wouldn't talk about with anybody else," Nicholas Reed said.
The body of Tamara Sparks, 40, was found Oct. 4, 2011, near 120th Street and North Eastern Road in Kansas City. Aug. 21, 2012, Nicoleone Reed's body was found at 134th Street and Scott Avenue in Kearney, MO. Both women were known prostitutes who worked along Independence Avenue.
The following details might be too graphic for some: Police said both bodies were "posed" in a similar way - with shirts pushed up and pants pulled down. Police aren't releasing how either woman died.
Nicoleone Reed's brother spoke with KCTV about his sister and the loss his family is going through.
Even though Nicoleone Reed was known to earn her living working on Independence Avenue as a prostitute, her brother said he has hope she will get the justice she deserves.
"She was a kind gentle person. She wasn't just the prostitute or drug addict that everybody is hearing about now," Nicholas Reed said.
It's been a very difficult year for Nicholas Reed who got the news of his sister's death while he was away at basic training. He and his sister had a special relationship. They were just a year apart and developed a strong bond as they bounced from one foster home to the next.
Nicholas Reed said he did his best to keep his sister off the streets, but said her struggle with mental illness and addiction had too strong a hold over her.
"One, you are battling the drugs. Two, you are battling her own personality, and you are battling her addiction at the same time. There's three different things you're doing at the same time to control one person," he said.
But Friday's announcement by police gave Nicholas Reed a renewed sense of hope that his sister's killer won't remain free much longer. He's pleading with the public to keep an eye out for a white pickup truck. The passenger side door was a different color, possibly blue or green. Police offered a wide range of dates for when the American model truck was built, possibly from the 1970s to the 1990s.
Nicholas Reed and police also are asking for people to call in if a shoe, which was found near Sparks' body looks familiar. The shoe is a size 11 khaki-colored, canvas-style Crocs. Its style is unusual and is similar to a moccasin. The shoe was well-worn.
All Nicholas Reed said he wants is justice for his sister.
"I just hope and pray that anyone out there watching will find it in their heart that if they see something call. It can be the smallest thing, the smallest detail the smallest lead will break the case wide open," he said.
Nicoleone Reed leaves behind a 2-year-old daughter, a girl that her family said will grow up never having known her mother.
Police say a third woman was attacked, but survived. They're still trying to figure out if her case is connected.
If you have any information, they've set up a special hotline: 816-288-0087 or you can call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
