LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A suspect is dead and another man in critical condition following an officer-involved shooting on Friday afternoon in the area of Pennwood Avenue and Arville Street west of the Las Vegas Strip.
Metro police said the incident started at 3 p.m. when they received a tip that the still unidentified suspect was at an apartment complex in the area. The man, wanted for attempted murder, had shot his girlfriend in the face with a handgun at close range.
When police arrived at the complex at 3:30 p.m., they witnessed the suspect, a man in his 30s, walk toward a vehicle on Pennwood where he was joined by an adult male and adult female.
When officers confronted the trio, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired at the officers. Officers returned fire, striking and killing the suspect. The other man was hit as well. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The female received minor injuries to a lower extremity. No officers were injured. Neither the surviving man nor the woman have been charged.
The identity of the suspect and the officers involved will be released in the coming days.
Nearby Clark High School was placed on lockdown as a result.
