Urban entrepreneurs aim for $60K prize

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Two young entrepreneurs entered a national competition for a chance to grow their business.  Now their idea has advanced them to the final round, and they provide a nice boost for the city too.

The two business partners have the chance to win up to $60,000.  Their idea is an online recruiting platform that will allow companies looking to hire bilingual candidates in the Midwest.

The online business is called HireBilinquals.com.

Ninety percent of bilingual jobs are for Spanish speakers, according to entrepreneur Gabe Munoz, who also works at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Knowing that, Munoz and his business partner, Raul Duran, thought there should be a system to test a person's bilingual skills.

Because, as Munoz says, someone can write that they are fluent in Spanish on their resume even when they may not be.

"We saw that there are varying levels of bilingualism. Some people took it in high school, some are native Spanish speakers, and there was no way to determine who was the best fit for your position unless you are able to assess those skills," Munoz said.

They present their business plan to a panel of nationally renowned judges in Chicago this weekend.

MillerCoors Brewing Company will announce who the winner is in March.
