100 gallons of fuel spills at Overland Park gas station

Posted: Updated:

Fire officials are monitoring a large fuel spill at an Overland Park convenience station.

Firefighters were called about 4:15 a.m. Monday to a hazardous materials response at a Quick Trip located at 9200 Santa Fe Drive.

Authorities were told by a fuel tanker driver that while filling the gas station's underground tanks, about 100 gallons of fuel spilled into the parking lot and into a nearby storm drain.

Firefighters and environmental workers monitored the air in the storm drain to make sure there was no danger of an explosion.

All levels were reported to be safe about 6:45 a.m., firefighters said, and the Kansas Department of Emergency Management and Johnson County Environmental have been contacted.

The Quick Trip was temporarily closed while crews cleaned up the fuel spill.

No injuries were reported.
