Restaurant, bar owner hopes police catch women who stole other woman's purse

Posted: Updated:

Eight minutes is all it took for two women to pull into a parking lot, walk into Coach's Bar and Grill, commit a crime and leave.

The crime took place Jan. 12. Police said the women walked in and one of them grabbed a menu like she was going to order. Then the women went into the restroom and spent a couple of minutes in there. They walked out, had their mark picked out, started heading towards the door and, in one motion, one of them plucked a woman's purse off of the back of her chair and they continued out the door.

Mike Darby, the co-owner of Coach's, said the crime has infuriated him.

"It's like they're at home, they're our guests here. It would be like you having someone over at your house and they get robbed while they're there. You feel like you're responsible for it," he said. "We're supposed to protect them, we're supposed to make them feel comfortable. They took that away from us and it's just really frustrating for us."

Police have released surveillance photos of the women. They said the two didn't waste any time going to work once they got the purse. The women racked up $500 in purchases at a CVS pharmacy and with laptops from another store. All of this was done before the victim realized her purse was stolen and called the credit card companies to cancel her cards.

Darby said he's been contacted by another restaurant in Waldo that was hit in the same manner, possibly by the same pair. In that incident, the women left in a late model black minivan.

Police are asking if you have any idea who the woman are, that you call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
