KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Some KCK students are back in their classrooms Tuesday morning despite a fire at their school.

The fire happened at Douglas Elementary near West Ninth and Washington streets.  The school was evacuated just after 8 a.m.

When firefighters arrived on the scene and were informed by staff on the scene that there was a fire in the kitchen area.

Crews found a large oven that was being used to pre-heat breakfast food for the approximate 440 students who attend the school.

Firefighters said the fire was out when they arrived, but crews used fans to clear the building of any smoke.

School officials say the fire was contained to an oven and there wasn't much damage.

No injuries were reported.
