Owner of cement gorilla found, Overland Park police say

OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

It was a head scratcher.

Who would dump a 300-pound gorilla at a park in Overland Park last weekend? Overland Park police dubbed the gorilla "Mack," and asked the public for help in determining the owner.

After receiving many calls and emails, Overland Park police say they have determined the rightful owner.

An Olathe couple will return Mack to his rightful spot. The gorilla was taken from their front yard on Dec. 15. A theft report was filed with Olathe police at the time.

The owners and police were able to positively identify the gorilla as the Olathe family's. The family thanked police for their help in recovering their statute.
