A Cleveland, MO, man was killed early Wednesday morning about 45 minutes after he reportedly got his truck stuck in a ditch.
Authorities were called about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in regard to a pickup in the ditch near 231st Street and Mission Road. A witness reported the driver of the pickup was intoxicated, and they were trying to get the truck freed from a ditch.
However, when sheriff's deputies arrived, they found no truck and no one in the area.
Emergency units were then dispatched less than a hour later to Mission Road and 231st Street in regard to an injury accident.
Witnesses say they heard a crash and found the accident.
Deputies said a 1991 Chevrolet pickup was heading south and went through the T-intersection. The truck collided into a ditch embankment on the south side of 231st Street.
The driver, 31-year-old Anthony Bower, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt. No other passengers were in the truck.
The accident is still under investigation, however, deputies said the first report of a pickup in the ditch was described as the same pickup involved in the fatality.
