KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police said a woman in a stolen car tried to run from them with her 7-year-old son in the backseat.

She ended up crashing into a fence at a car sales lot at Truman Road and White Avenue in Kansas City, MO.

It all started just before 11:30 a.m. Friday when Independence police started following the stolen car, spotted in the area of Interstate 435 and Truman Road, into Kansas City. The officers saw there was a small child in the backseat of the stolen car, so they decided to call off the pursuit.

Shortly after, those officers came upon the crash scene. It looked like the vehicle swiped a light pole and stopped in the fence of the car lot. They pulled their guns and arrested the female driver.

An ambulance was called for the boy who was treated and released to a relative.

The owner of the car lot said four of his vehicles were damaged, but his biggest concern was the frightened boy.

"It was crying, it was real scared for its life and screaming for his mom. 'Mom, mom,'" Josh Fuertes of Jig Auto Sales said. "She (the mom) was shocked, she didn't know what to do. She was trying to get out of the car real fast."

Officers immediately arrested the boy's mother. She said she borrowed the car from a friend and did not know it was stolen.
