For years, Kansas Citians have been going to the Beaumont Club for concerts and parties. That all could change with reports the club closed on Sunday.

On The Beaumont Club's website, they still have some of their upcoming concerts listed, but employees at the club said they just learned they were out of a job after this past weekend.

When KCTV5 stopped by the business Wednesday, they saw people moving out furniture and other equipment. Beer company trucks pulled up to get their equipment as other workers hauled off picnic tables.

Long-time promoter Jim Kilroy had put on shows at Beaumont Club for 15 years and he said he learned through social media that the club was closing.

"I heard that business had not been good here. Some of the shows that I've done here in the last six months are not getting the same kind of turn out they had in the past, so I guess not a total shock," Kilroy said.

Lawrence Smith showed up Wednesday to rent the club for a dance party, unaware that they have gone out of business.

"A lot of concerts are held down here - I've been here for rap concerts," Smith said. "I don't think they should close - it's a nice spot."

The realtor that manages the property said the lease with Mammoth Productions, which ran the club, is still in place and he hadn't heard from them about shutting down. But Beaumont staff said they got an email from their manager telling them that Sunday, Dec. 30, was the last call.

"I've heard feedback on Facebook and from those in the music scene, they don't ever like to see places go," Kilroy said. "People are going to miss the place."

The club, which started out as a country western spot, had evolved over the years, attracting hard rock bands. But Kilroy said lately the club couldn't drum up enough support with all the competition in the market.

"For national acts that you can draw here, they can go to the Voodoo Lounge, Power and Light, Midland, they can go to Crossroads. It's a lot of people competing for the same kinds of bands," he said.

KCTV5's Sandra Olivas called and emailed Mammoth Productions out of Lawrence, KS, for a comment, but they didn't respond.

Some of the bartenders and other employees said they are upset with how the closing was handled because they were told in an email they no longer had jobs.

Employees are planning a farewell party for any regulars of The Beaumont Club or former employees on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the 403 Club in Kansas City, KS, located at 403 N. Fifth St.

Some events listed on the Beaumont Club's website still show the date they're supposed to be performed at the venue, while others now say they've been moved to The Granada in Lawrence, KS. Click here for The Beaumont Club's website.
