KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Charges have been filed in a weekend homicide.

A body was found about 2 p.m. Sunday at 38th and Bales streets. The man, later identified as 27-year-old Antwan S. Wooden, was found shot multiple times inside a vehicle.

Police said Wooden left his girlfriend Saturday about 11 p.m., they believe, to go to meet someone near 38th and Bales. After not hearing from him, Wooden's girlfriend sent her mother to go look on the block for her vehicle the following day. The mother found the girlfriend's vehicle, looked inside and found Wooden dead in the driver's seat.

Court documents said a witness told them a man by the name of Ant received a call from Wooden to set up a drug deal. After returning with a white substance in a plastic bag, the witness told police Ant got angry because what he thought was drugs was actually baking soda.

Court documents said Ant confronted Wooden and the witness heard seven to eight gunshots.

The victim's girlfriend gave police the phone number she had for Ant, which led them to 30-year-old Anthony L. Nevels. He was positively identified by witnesses as being Ant.

Nevels denied ever being in the area or meeting Wooden or his girlfriend.

Nevels faces charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
