A man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of a woman from the mid-Missouri town of Marshall.

Emergency first responders rushed to a housing complex late Wednesday night to find a woman who had been stabbed several times. They did their best to save her, but unfortunately, she's now become the first murder victim of the year in Marshall.

Police took 45-year-old Terry Thompson, the man described as a person of interest in the murder of 32-year-old Rebecca Fisher, into custody late Thursday night. He was arrested near Clarksville.

He was charged Friday morning with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Bond was set at $500,000 cash only. He makes his first court appearance on Wednesday.

Police said Fisher was stabbed several times in a parking lot located off Birchwood Circle just outside of town. They said Fisher most likely crawled to a nearby doorstep for help and someone inside the home called 911.

"We came out here, and this girl is laying there on the ground, blood all over the place, and blood on my car," Ryan Stephens said.

Stephens lives next door and said he's seen Thompson around, but doesn't know him well.

Police said Thompson was seen arguing with Fisher in the parking lot just before the stabbing. They said he then jumped into her car and drove to Columbia, MO. Authorities there found her car.

Sgt. Roger Gibson is heading up the investigation and said the entire police force is dedicated to finding whoever is responsible for the murder in their tight-knit community.

"For us, a small community with great people, to have something tragic like this happen, it hits home," Gibson said.

Police ask that anyone with information call the Marshall Police Department at 660-886-7411.
