OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

Eleven families were displaced when the apartment building they were living in caught fire Wednesday evening.

The fire was reported at Highland Ridge Apartments located near 119th Street and Switzer Road.

One resident said she thought it was lightly snowing until she heard a bang and saw the fire.

Eleven of the building's 12 units were occupied and everyone made it out safely. The Red Cross is assisting them.

Two units in the building suffered large damage from the fire and the others saw smoke damage.

There is no word at this time what caused the fire.
