KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Four people had to be taken to the hospital after their car crashed into a Kansas City, KS, apartment building.

The crash happened about 12:45 p.m. on Meadowlark Court between Parallel Parkway and State Avenue in Kansas City, KS.

The car hit a natural gas line and part of the car caught fire.

There was no one inside the building at the time of the accident. Two adults and two children were inside the car.

"Apparently the car went into the structure. The car caught on fire and was extinguished with no extensions to the building," Battalion Chief Kim Blake said. "There were four occupants in the car. Two (were taken to) KU and two (were taken to) Children's Mercy - none critical."

The man driving the car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries to his head.

Investigators haven't said what caused the car to crash into the building. It was estimated that $20,000 worth of damage was caused to the property.
