KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -
Two people died in a crash and witnesses said the driver was speeding and driving recklessly.
The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 70 at Turner Diagonal.
A witness said the 1998 Acura passed her traveling fast before the driver lost control. The vehicle slid into a bridge support pillar. The drivers of several vehicles stopped including a Marine. The Marine discovered the two bodies and kept other witnesses back from the grisly scene.
"Vehicle one was eastbound at a high rate of speed and swerved to the right to avoid slower traffic, causing them to strike a bridge pillar," according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority report.
Killed were Elias Sanchez Pagan, 28, of Olathe and Maria Burgos, 20. Her hometown is not known.
Police are working to determine if either was wearing a seatbelt.
